Beach House!

So I spent a weekend in the middle of February with Lychee and Caitrin. The beach house belongs to Lychee's grandparents, and it stands vacant most of the year, but is available for anyone in Lychee's family (and friends, by extension) to use.

And so, one grey, wet, rainy weekend, that is what we did!

The adventure begins! Here is the house...

...directly next door to the one we stayed in, which is this one right here.

Yeah, the house itself isn't much to look at, but it does come with a hell of a deck. Which would be more fun in warmer weather, but we knew what we were getting into going to the coast in February, so w/e.

View numero Uno from the deck. I guess "Beach House" is kind of a misleading description, since the house itself is actually overlooking a river about a 10-minute drive from the beach itself.

View numero Dos from the deck. It's beautiful now; I can only imagine what it would look like in the middle of summer. <3

The front of the house. It really is a very classy little place.

The basement can only be accessed by going outside and down the steps. There's a washer-dryer, a large, dusty playroom, and a guest-room down here. We only went in long enough to turn on the water on Saturday, and long enough to turn it off again on Sunday before we left.

I adore the old steps and foundation you can see under the new deck. It looks like an absolutely magical place to spend hours playing in for a kid. <3

BACK TO THE HOUSE! The front door leads directly into the kitchen.

Directly across the kitchen is the fabulous master bedroom, which we didn't disturb.

And the single bathroom, complete with wall-unit space-heater, can be seen directly to the left.

NEHALEM BEACH HOUSE RULES. I thought these were adorable so I photographed them. 8|

This is where we spent most of our stay. Yes, we went back in time to the 70's. The puke-green shag rug is absolutely faaaaabulous.

The entertainment center! Which we actually didn't use, because Caitrin brought her laptop which contains many episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

As the house had no central heating, we needed firewood. Which meant we needed to hit up the woodpile...in the garage. *ominous chord*

Actually the garage was not as scary as the Ominous Open Door Into A Black Pit Of Night in the previous photograph made it appear.

Armed with a hatchet, Lychee set out to break down some of the firewood. I've titled this next series of photos "City Girl versus Country Living."

...We gave up after that. :|

And had a glorious fire anyway! \o/

As a prelude to photographs of the 'town' of Nehalem, I present unto you the phone directory for the 'town' of Nehalem.

The walk into town took place on a steep, steep hill. Here is the view from a point along the way!

And here is the local mechanics. I mean. The local city hall.

...Yeah, I don't get it either. As we made our way past this hub of intercity functionality, we were accosted by a small girl claiming to be Mother Nature. She warned us that a storm was coming, and that we should be careful. We waited all night for a storm, but none came. I kind of think that little girl may have been lying about being Mother Nature...

I don't remember why I took a picture of this. It's just a quaint little beach town building, I guess.

And here we are in the heart of downtown Nehalem.

...ayup.

Caitrin and her fabulous Labrador Finn arrived several hours after we did...just in time for the pierogis Lychee made to come out of the oven.

We drove down to Manzanita on Sunday and spent a good hour flinging a ball for Finn to chase. Here he is in repose, but he's just waiting for that ball to be thrown again.

I thought this sign was funny, idk.

...And that was our fabulous beach weekend. We bought skittles and cheetos for dinner Saturday night, and marathoned ATLA into the wee hours of the morning. Caitrin ate all the red and purple skittles. I had remembered to bring my toothbrush but forgot to bring toothpaste, so that was pretty gross. I slept comfortably under a huge pile of blankets and awoke at a little before nine because that is the time Finn decided everyone needed to be awake.

AND THAT IS MY STORY.

up next (maybe): photos of cosplay progress!

Yeah, because you're a crazy viking. Us normal human beings prefer not to freeze our toes off. :<
